Save money. Make your carpet last with proper maintenance. Realistically, your wall-to-wall carpet that you invested a bunch of money in should last 15+ years. Normal, everyday wear and tear can cut this longevity in half if you let it. So, lets see what you can do to make your carpet last.
Keep your carpeting looking beautiful with these simple guidelines:
Make sure you vacuum, or have your carpet vacuumed regularly. High volume areas should be vacuumed at least twice per week because these areas are most likely to be damaged. Once per week is sufficient for carpet that’s not seeing as much action. Frequent vacuuming helps prevent major soil buildups.
Always make sure you start with a clean bag. A dirty bag to start will reduce the vacuum suction power by 50%. Also, vacuum at an appropriate speed and set your vacuum to the right height. You do not want to rush the job. Move the vacuum slowly enough to get out as much dirt as possible. You do not want to set the vacuum too low as this can damage the carpet. Too high and you may be wasting your time by not picking up any dirt.
Walk off mats both inside and outside the home will also go a long way to maintaining your carpet. Those coarse textured mats on the outside of your home will remove the dirt from your guests feet. Put a water absorbing mat on the interior of your home. Wet sneakers on carpeting is a major no-no that can easily be avoided.
